So… I’m about to leave for my trip to the Big Apple (New York City) and decide it might be fun to stay in a personal apartment or condo rather than an uber-expensive New York hotel. Little did I know, although I strongly suspected it as being possible, there are tons of scam artists out there trying to collect rent and deposits for “vacation rentals” that don’t actually exist… or at least they don’t own the properties in which they are selling.
Anyways, I’m glad that I’m not stupid, because there was a really “good” Craigslist ad with a fair price that I was referred to by somebody who can’t seem to spot scams before hitting the “send to friend” link. The address of the Craigslist scam was:
246 E 47th St, New York, NY 10017, USA
I went ahead and emailed the scammers to see exactly what they had to offer, knowing well that I wouldn’t touch my wallet without first doing my own due diligence on the “adorable suitable apartment” on 47th East in Midtown New York.

Craiglist New York Apartment Scam!
Hmm… No name in the response? A usa.com email address (which is likely a free email account service)? Something doesn’t seem right here already. At first, I was prepared to reply and ask for their so-called “booking agreement,” but I figured maybe I don’t have to go that far (or waste that extra time that I’m using the write this and warn others!) Instead, I googled the address of the “adorable” apartment and came across an instant red flag; other people were complaining about being scammed on Craigslist for the same exact property address, and the same exact emails. Those Nigerians, they aren’t too smart are they?
Anyways, if you’re hitting this page from google, STAY FAR AWAY and DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY to those people. You may as well burn yourself a nice little fire and at least get some warmth out of it. 🙂
Stay safe everyone!
